Rediscovering Home

Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, Philippines

One of the reasons why I love Sunday so much is the fact that I can do whatever the heck I want out of it; just like taking a short trip out of town to go visit my lola's place. Balingasag, Misamis Oriental has been my second home for the past nineteen years. I think half of my childhood years (if you add up all the times we visited) was spent in this place. It's my mother's hometown and most of my close relatives are residing there.

When I was a kid, my family and I would visit almost every Sunday and almost every holiday. Back then, my lola had a billiard table  and I was one of those makulit grandkids who would climb up the table and play with the billiard balls. There were days when I hated visiting my lola's house because I don't have a lot of girl cousins to play with. I only have two (I think? Haha) girl cousins and our age gap is too long. Most of my cousins are boys and every time we visit the place, my older brother is always the one who's more excited to go.
This place has brought so many beautiful memories. When I was like about eight or nine years old, I was always so excited for December to come. It's not only because I know I would be getting shit tons of gifts but also because I was always tasked to organize a Christmas party. Months before Christmas, I would get really busy planning the parlor games, the program flow, the music and prizes! No wonder, a part of me wanted to become an event organizer~haha!

Lately, I've been trying to find a spare time to visit this place again and thank God I finally had the chance today. I have toured around the place but I haven't really saw it in a different light. Today, however, I had the chance to appreciate the beauty that this place has been holding for a really long time.
A lot of things has changed. Progress can be seen through the newly built "People's Palace", the beach boulevard and the booming business establishments. But some things remain the same just like the well-preserved houses built around the Spanish era, the church and the park.
Balingasag, Misamis Oriental is the fourth municipality from CDO.
